SPIC Shandong Company Commissions Its First Gigawatt-Class New Energy Base Outside Shandong

SPIC Shandong Company has reached a landmark milestone with the full commissioning of its first gigawatt-class new energy base located outside Shandong Province. At 22:05 on February 5, 2026, the 100 MW No.5 wind power project at the Pingshanhu gigawatt-class wind power base in Ganzhou District, Zhangye City, was successfully connected to the grid, bringing the company's total wind and solar capacity in Gansu to 1.05 GW.

The 100 MW Pingshanhu wind power project is the first project independently developed and built by Shandong Company as part of its continued expansion into the new energy market beyond Shandong. Located deep in the Gobi Desert north of the Hexi Corridor, the project faced severe construction challenges, including harsh environmental conditions, with winter temperatures dropping to as low as -30 °C and frequent sandstorms throughout the year, as well as complex grid connection procedures and extensive cross-organizational coordination.

To address these challenges, the Party Committee of Shandong Company made unified arrangements and deployed elite Party members to critical frontline positions. During the final grid connection sprint, the project team established an efficient multi-stakeholder coordination mechanism with the local government, State Grid, and the Jianxun 330 kV Substation. Through close collaboration, the project became the first among the five wind farms connected to the Jianxun 330 kV Substation to achieve successful grid connection, fully demonstrating the company's strong capabilities in delivering large-scale new energy projects.

Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 209 million kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to saving about 63,500 tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by around 174,000 tonnes and sulfur dioxide emissions by approximately 522 tonnes each year. The project reflects the company's concrete efforts to support China's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and to advance green, low-carbon development.

As China enters the 15th Five-Year Plan Period, Shandong Company will build on this achievement to optimize its green energy portfolio, accelerate high-quality project development, and implement the Group's balanced growth strategy, thereby driving sustainable, high-quality development.
